TRAILS

Confluence Colorado trails offer a scenic view of the confluence of two rivers, the Colorado and the Green. The five-mile trail begins at the Confluence Overlook, where the Colorado River meets the Green River. The trail crosses multiple canyon systems and has a beautiful view of the confluence.

The Confluence Overlook trail crosses a section of Big Spring Canyon before revealing a vista of the Green River and Colorado River. This scenic hike takes hikers to the confluence of the rivers, which defines the three districts of Canyonlands National Park. The Confluence Overlook trail begins by descending 120 feet into the canyon and ascends out the other side. While the Confluence Overlook trail offers a beautiful view of the confluence, it is not for everyone, as it is not shaded and can get very hot.

A side trip to the South Rim includes the Elephant Canyon trail, which begins by descending through Big Spring Canyon and crosses a plateau. The trail then follows the course of Elephant Canyon, where hikers can explore the Colorado River and view the gorge below. From here, the trail winds around large ridges and passes through a flat grassy valley. From here, the trail continues to a junction with Devils Lane and Cyclone Canyon 4WD roads. Once there, the trail crosses a jeep road and leads to the Grabens area.

The Confluence Overlook trail starts at the Big Spring Canyon Trailhead, which is in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. It is located near the Visitor’s Center and is 6.6 miles long. It begins by descending through the canyon and then climbs out on the southwest side. It features a metal ladder that facilitates the climb up the slickrock ledge. Once you reach the ridge, the trail flattens out.

Confluence Park features a green single-track trail. The trail is family-friendly and can be completed in about half an hour. The trail is located near the Colorado River boat launch, a Mountain Bike Skills Park, and a Pump Track.

OFF THE BEATEN PATH

If you’re a hiker, there are a lot of off the beaten path places to visit in Confluence Colorado. A nice out-and-back trail leads through the town. Nearby, a coffee shop and bookstore are called Off the Beaten Path.

This winding trail climbs sandstone and contours tight drainages. You’ll pass by Comanche Creek and Espejo Creek. Most of the trail stays clear of the brushy river banks. But there are sections where deep red cliffs push the trail near the side channel of the Colorado, forcing you to make a brief climb above the river.
